2. It's easy to use
Basic isn’t always a bad thing – I’ve tested a range of pet fountains, and this is by far the easiest to use. You don’t need to remember to charge a battery or figure out complicated settings – simply plug it in and go.

3. You can monitor your cat's water intake
A cat not drinking could be a sign of a health condition that needs your attention, so we always recommend keeping an eye on their intake regularly. I've tested fountains that send a notification to your phone whenever your cat drinks, but this one relies on a good old-fashioned window you can track by eye – saving you from taking off the lid each time or getting constant messages.

4. It holds a good amount of water
Containing up to 90 oz of water (more than the average cat fountain), you won't need to constantly top it up. And since it holds that little bit extra, it can also be used for small dogs (though it's important to give them their own separate bowls if you live in a multi-pet household).

5. It's dishwasher-safe
If you hate washing up as much as I do, you'll be pleased to hear that this fountain is dishwasher-safe.

Unlike my cats' traditional bowl that quickly builds up debris and grime, this provides them with fresh, filtered water that's probably a lot more appetizing to them – and better for their health!

It doesn't take long to set up this fountain; you'll have it up and running in under 10 minutes and the instructions are relatively easy to follow. The device comes with one filter, a quick start guide, a USB power cable, and a wall adaptor.

2. Rinse the filter, then insert it into the slot at the front of the tower
3. Place the spout into the tower and the cone into the stem
4. Place the lid on the tower and rotate it clockwise
5. Put the tray into the bowl, fill it up with water, and replace the tray
6. Connect the fountain to the USB cable (ensure your hands are dry)

The biggest downside of this device is that it's corded, which doesn't look as sleek in your home and makes it more of a faff to move around if needed. Since it holds more water than other cat fountains, it also comes with a bigger size, which looks a bit clunkier than other models I've tested.

While it doesn't look as easy on the eye, it saves me from having to remember to charge it and means my cats constantly have fresh water, instead of waiting for it to be fully charged again. The larger size also means I don't have to top it up as often and makes it suitable for small dogs too.

What's good about the Yeedi S14 Plus Robot Vacuum and Mop

I’ve tested some of the best vacuum cleaners for pet hair on the market – here’s everything I liked about the Yeedi S14 Plus.

1. It saves me time
I could definitely clean the house a lot quicker than this vacuum, but I love that I can get on with other things at the same time – and when I'm finished, I come back to squeaky clean floors (without any effort).

You don't even need to be in the same room to program a clean, as everything can be controlled via the app – including suction power, water output, and returning to the station. Instead of spending my Saturday mornings blitzing the house, I can now lie in bed, press a button, and know the job is being handled while I snooze.

2. It cleans well
How often do you clean underneath your surfaces and cabinets? For me, this level of cleaning happens once in a blue moon, so I was thrilled when I saw the vacuum hard at work underneath my furniture, getting into all those places I usually avoid.

Since the vacuum has a circular shape, I was skeptical that it would clean in the corners – but to my delight, it features a side brush that gets into every cavity and is really helpful when cleaning around things like chair legs.

You can choose between a range of vacuum and mop settings, but I like to use the most powerful suction and highest water output for the deepest clean, and I've been pleased with the results so far. I've run a couple of tests (plain flour on my vinyl flooring and pet hair on my carpet), and it picked up both perfectly. Since it has anti-tangle technology, it shouldn't wrap hair or fur around the bristles either (but time will tell if that holds true).

However, there was one sticky mark it failed to clean, which I only managed to lift by scrubbing violently with a wet cloth.

3. It avoids obstacles (and pets!)
Before I used the Yeedi S14 Plus, I pictured it crashing into my furniture and cats, creating more mess than it cleaned. So, I was relieved to see it dodge obstacles and turn in the other direction – which makes me feel comfortable leaving my pets alone in the same room with it.

As well as avoiding stationary objects, it can also detect real-time movement – like people walking past or doors closing – and will change its route to move out of the way.

Once, it got caught on my front door mat, but it recovered quickly without me having to intervene.

I hate reading instructions more than anyone, but I found it relatively simple to set up the Yeedi S14 Plus and would rate the process about an 8/10. The device comes with a handy instruction card, a user manual, and easy-to-follow guidance once you've logged into the app.

The vacuum can be controlled via buttons, voice commands, or the app, giving you plenty of flexibility depending on your preference.

Once you've plugged it in and connected it to Wi-Fi and the app, the device creates a map of the rooms in your home so it knows where to clean. It's a little tricky to figure out which room is which at first, but once you get the hang of it, you can assign floor types to each room so it cleans accordingly.

If you're looking to invest in one of the best pet cameras, the Petcube Cam 360 is a solid choice. After weeks of testing, here's everything I like about it:

1. No blind spots:
Thanks to the 360-degree panning feature, this camera doesn't have any blind spots (unlike other security cams I've tested in the past). You can control where the camera moves from an app on your phone, panning left, right, up, and down, as well as zooming in up to eight times. This let me follow my cats around the room and see what they were getting up to when I wasn't there.

2. Easy set-up:
This was one of the easiest cameras I've ever tested, and I had it working in under five minutes. If you're a beginner (or can't be bothered to read pages of instructions, like me), this is the model for you.

3. Two-way talk:
While most pet cameras offer two-way talk (a microphone and speaker that let you talk to and hear your animal), it's still a handy feature regardless. It would be especially useful for dog owners (particularly if they're in the middle of reactivity training), as it lets you check in and reassure them if they're feeling distressed.

4. Motion and sound alerts:
It might be tempting to watch what your pets are doing all day on your phone, but that wouldn't be very productive! Thankfully, this camera has motion and sound alerts, so you can stay updated if something actually happens. You will need to subscribe to a paid plan to access this feature, though.

The app has a simple interface that's easy to navigate, and if you run into any problems along the way, there are plenty of helpful articles – and the support team is quick to respond.

I was disappointed that the camera has a corded design, as it looks less attractive than other models I've tested, like the battery-powered Toucan S4. However, it was easier than I thought to blend it in with my furniture, thanks to its small, compact size, and the lead tucks neatly down the side of my cabinet.

The camera comes in one color (white with a black square section around the lens), but it doesn't look offensive, and I'm happy to have it up on the shelf.

Petcube Cam 360 value for money

This camera is pretty good value for money, costing under $47 despite having a bunch of high-tech features, like 360-degree panning, security alerts, and night vision. It's also available as a two-pack, which works out at around $41 per device.

However, I have spotted cheaper versions with pretty similar functionalities – like this one from Amazon for under $20, with nearly 7,000 five-star reviews. It doesn't have sound alerts or a vet chat line like the Petcube Cam 360, but that might be worth sacrificing if you want to save money.

If you're looking for a beginner-friendly pet camera, the Petcube 360 is one of my top picks thanks to its super-easy setup, simple app interface, and straightforward instructions. The PetPivot Autoscooper 11 is one of the best automatic cat litter boxes I've tested – here's everything I liked about it:

1. It scoops your cat's poop for you
If there's one thing all cat owners can agree on, it's that cleaning out the litter box is the worst chore in the world. I love that the Autoscooper 11 takes care of this dreaded task at the click of a button – all I have to do is tie up and dispose of the bag after five to ten days.

2. It's simple
Yes, this litter box is pretty basic in terms of functions, but sometimes less is more – it was ten times easier to set up than other automatic boxes I’ve tested.

3. It reduces litter tracking
The box comes with a handy rubber mat that catches litter from your cat's paws before it touches the floor – and this has significantly reduced litter tracking in my bathroom. Of course, you don't have to buy a whole new litter box for this (you can buy these mats on Amazon for under $20), but I like how it's included.

4. It works well for anxious cats
One of my cats suffers from anxiety, so I was skeptical that he’d even want to use this thing. Thankfully, the box has two modes: automatic (it cleans itself after detecting the cat has left) and manual (you press a button when you want it to clean). The latter is less intimidating for easily frightened cats, as they don’t have to see or hear the cleaning in action.

In comparison to other automatic litter boxes that require a Wi-Fi connection and app installation, the Autoscooper is fuss-free to set up – and you don't have to be a tech genius to get it working. Simply plug it into the wall, press a few buttons, and you're good to go!

While I did find it a little tricky to screw the legs onto the base, and was initially confused about how to get the dirty litter to fall into the waste bag, the video tutorial came to the rescue in the end.

When I previously tested Whisker's Litter-Robot 3, I was quite shocked at the size and a bit disappointed by how much space it took up. So, I was very happy to discover that the Autoscooper is a lot smaller and doesn't look much clunkier than your standard litter box (just higher up, obviously).

The box is made from plastic, and while it isn't particularly attractive, it's not a total eyesore either, and it comes in five colors: white, white/beige, white/grey, white/pink, and grey.

I keep my litter box in the bathroom, and since the plug socket is high up on the wall, it made things slightly tricky when it came to plugging it in. For this reason, I wish the cord were longer, but you could solve the problem by using an extension lead.

Automatic litter boxes typically range from around $165 to $900, so the Autoscooper is priced quite reasonably at $300 (and I’ve seen it on sale a couple of times for under $180).

While it doesn’t offer app control or health monitoring like those premium models do, I don’t feel like I’m missing out by not having them. If you’re looking for something more affordable – and just want to avoid scooping poop – this is a great choice that won’t completely break the bank.

As someone who tests pet products for a living, I often get asked whether the Litter-Robot 3 Connect or Litter-Robot 4 is the better choice. My answer? It all depends on the size of your cat, how many you have, and your personal preferences. To help you decide which one is right for you, we put both of them to the test, comparing everything from the specs and set-up to the odor control and user experience.

Both devices are quite similar in terms of setup and arrive fully assembled – all you need to do is plug them in. Before getting started, there are a few pre-checks: remove the cardboard and tape, check the bonnet tabs, and secure the key at the rear of the device. Then, place it on a flat, dry surface, preferably where your cat’s old litter box used to be.

The devices shouldn’t be pushed against a wall or into a corner – they need to be at least two to three inches away – and should be positioned near a plug socket.

Once it’s plugged in, add some clumping litter, turn it on, and run an initial cleaning cycle. Whisker advises against using litter that is absorbent, non-clumping, loosely clumping, or made from newspaper or wood-based pellets. Finally, turn it off while your cats get accustomed to it and gradually introduce them.

Both models are easy to set up, so we would opt for the Litter-Robot 3 Connect to save money. While our tester said the large size is hard to move around, the difference between the two is a matter of a couple of inches, so it's not worth spending extra for this alone.

According to Whisker's website, the Litter-Robot 4's waste drawer has a larger capacity and is tightly sealed, which helps to prevent bad smells. However, our tester, Philip, says he didn't notice any odors with the 3 Connect.

Philip was super impressed with how the Litter-Robot 3 Connect contained bad smells, so it's not worth spending more for the 4.

One of the worst things about traditional litter boxes is that your cat often drops a trail of litter behind them (which feels impossible to keep on top of!) Both Litter-Robots feature a globe-shaped design and an integrated step that helps prevent this mess from getting outside.

You can also purchase the LitterTrap Mat and ramp to help even further. While both models do a good job at containing litter, the 4 includes a fence to go one step further, but you'll need to buy this separately with the 3 Connect.

🏆 Winner (Tracking): Litter-Robot 3 Connect

Both of our testers rated this feature five stars, so there's no need to upgrade to the Litter-Robot 4.

Litter-Robot 3 Connect vs 4: Size

Both devices are similar in footprint size, with the Litter-Robot 3 Connect measuring 24.25’’ x 27’’ and the Litter-Robot 4 measuring 22’’ x 27’’. Our tester, Philip, was surprised at how large it looked in his home, so it's definitely worth measuring your space before committing to the purchase – especially since it can't be placed flat against a wall.

The Litter-Robot 4 has a larger entryway, measuring 15.75’’ x 15.75’’, making it a better choice for large cats and easier for them to climb into. The Litter-Robot 3 Connect measures 10.25’’ x 15.25’’, but our tester's cats didn’t have any problems getting inside – so it’s down to your preference.

However, it's worth bearing in mind that if you have cats under 3lbs, the automatic cleaning won’t work on the Litter-Robot 3 – but it will on the 4.

🏆 Winner (Size): Litter-Robot 4

The Litter-Robot 4 wins this round, as it’s suitable for both larger cats and smaller kittens.

Litter-Robot 3 Connect vs 4: User experience

Lots of pet parents have concerns about whether their cat would actually use an automatic litter box, but both of our testers say their cats are happy to use these boxes and have adjusted well.

The Litter-Robot 4 features a SmartScale that can identify multiple cats using the box. You can set up profiles for them on the app and monitor their toilet habits, which is very helpful for spotting health conditions early.

For both versions, you can view the waste drawer levels in the app and be alerted when it's time to change, but with the 4, you can also see real-time litter and waste levels.

For safety purposes, both boxes have anti-pinch technology and weight-activated sensors, but the 4 has advanced sensor technology and greater accuracy, which stops cleaning when it detects motion or resistance inside.

Noise is another common question. While both testers were happy with the noise level, the Litter-Robot 4 has QuietSift technology, which makes less noise during cleaning.

If you have a skittish cat or find noises really bothersome, we recommend going for the Litter-Robot 4, which is quieter during cleaning. It's also a better choice for multi-cat households as you can monitor individual pets.

Both Litter-Robots feature a modern design that looks (and smells) ten times better than any traditional box. While they do take up a fair bit of space, our testers were happy with the overall appearance of both.

While the Litter-Robot 3 Connect is available in beige or black, the Litter-Robot 4 comes in a range of colors (white, black, lilac, fuchsia, mint, marble, wood grain, grey stone) – something to keep in mind if décor is important to you. The 4 is slightly smaller as well, but it's not enough of a difference to warrant spending more for this reason.

The Litter-Robot 4 comes in eight different colors, making it easier to find a style that fits your home. However, the Litter-Robot 3 Connect does come in neutral colors, so we don’t think it’s a total dealbreaker if you want to save money.

• You have a particularly large cat who needs a bigger entry way

Why we love the Enabot ROLA PetPal

The Enabot ROLA PetPal is one of the best pet cameras we've ever tested (and the first one that doubles up as a toy!) Here's everything I love about it:

1. The remote-control steering

Perhaps the biggest selling point of this robot is the remote steering, which you can control through an app on your phone. It features a 360-degree joystick, a speed adjuster, and the ability to program it to move in specific patterns, like a figure eight or a circle.

2. The camera

Obviously, the 2.5K resolution isn't as impressive as the iPhone cameras we're all used to, but it's very good for a pet camera and a lot better than the average one, which has a resolution of 1080p. It picks up all the details you need, and after months of testing, I haven't experienced any delays or issues.

The camera is positioned at the same level as your pet, allowing you to observe their reactions. It’s so much fun to see what they get up to, and the 135-degree lens provides a great view of the surroundings.

You can replay footage and save it to your device, but keep in mind that saving to the app's Cloud storage requires a subscription plan, starting at $6 per month. That said, you can definitely get by without it.

3. The two-way audio

The two-way audio is another fun feature that lets you talk to your pet from another room or play pre-recorded sounds. It's also handy for those lazy moments when you need something from the other room!

4. The AI features

One of the coolest features of this device is its ability to recognize your pet and dispense treats specifically for them (you can buy the attachment on Amazon).

It can record videos of your pet throughout the day and edit them into a 'day in their life-style movie, which is then sent to your phone (with a subscription). There's also a smart reminder page, where you can set alerts for everything from deworming your pet to waking up in the morning (see second photo in gallery).

Additionally, the PetPal slows down when it detects an object in its path and alerts you to any unusual activity in your home that could pose a security concern.

5. The treat dispenser

I initially thought the treat dispenser would be tricky to set up, but to my surprise, it was incredibly easy and up and running within minutes. This feature is especially handy if you’re out of the house and want to give your pet a snack, though it’s a shame the attachment costs an additional $49.

Setting up the Enabot ROLA PetPal was pretty easy – even for someone like me who hates reading instructions! I got it working in about 10 minutes and found lots of helpful videos online to guide me through.

At times, it takes a little while for the device to connect to the app, and I need to manually switch the robot on and off again, but this could be a Wi-Fi issue on my end. However, this would defeat the object if you're on vacation and can't physically do anything.

Enabot ROLA PetPal: Value for money

While $229 is a lot of money, this is not your standard security camera, and there are very few products like it on the market. Its competitor, the Rocki Robot, costs $20 less but doesn’t offer as good a camera. Enabot also has a more affordable mini robot for $149, but for the sake of $80, I think it’s worth paying a bit more to get all the cool features.

Yes, you can grab a 2K resolution security camera for under $100 (like this one we also tested from Amazon), but it doesn't have the remote control element.

My only hunch with the PetPal is that you have to pay extra for the treat dispenser and toy attachments, which I think should be included in this price.

Enabot ROLA PetPal: Design

The design is sturdy and I have every confidence that it wouldn't topple over if a pet wanted to play with it, but it's easy enough for a human to pick up and move around if needed. Steering takes a bit of getting used to, but this is probably due to my poor coordination more than anything else.

The app interface is user-friendly, and you can rotate your screen to landscape mode for a larger view of your pet. I think most people would find it easy to get the hang of, and there aren't too many buttons to get confused about.

This is more of a personal preference, but I don't love the charging dock and would much rather a plug-in lead. However, the auto self-charge feature is pretty convenient and saves you from having to remember to plug it in.

Enabot ROLA PetPal: Verdict

The Enabot ROLA PetPal is a great way to get up close and personal with your pets and check in on what they’re doing remotely throughout the day. I’ve had a lot of fun trying out this robot, and seeing my cat’s reaction on the camera has been hilarious and priceless – especially when I used the two-way talk feature!

I think the treat dispenser attachment is incredibly useful, but it’s a shame you have to pay extra for it when the device is already quite expensive. I also think the subscription-blocked features should be free, but that being said, you definitely don't need them.

Over the years I must have spent hundreds of dollars on various different dog toys for my miniature dachshund, who is easily bored and very, very destructive. I was therefore slightly hesitant before I purchased the Nina Ottosson toy, as it’s certainly not a cheap proposition. 

However, after a couple of weeks of using it, it seems to be worth every penny, as my dog loves playing with it, and it feels like a great way to give her some treats, while also making sure she works to “earn” them. 

That said, there are some important caveats to take note of. While she loves playing with it now, it took some time for her to understand how each of the treat compartments could be accessed, and I feared she would easily get bored and walk away. I sat with her and moved the toy’s parts with my hands, and encouraged her with plenty of praise when she managed to move something by herself.

Some of the toy’s parts are stiffer than others, so if you have a very small dog, perhaps with very small paws (such as a chihuahua), then they might struggle with some of the compartments. By contrast, very large dogs may overwhelm the toy, so generally I’d recommend it for small to medium-sized dogs.

Another important thing is to ensure that you supervise your dog while playing with this toy, especially if they are prone to chewing. Occasionally, my dog will get fed up with trying to figure out how to get the treats out and simply take the approach of trying to chew her way through to them – it hasn’t worked yet, and nothing has detached, but as nothing is totally indestructible, it’s not something I’d feel wholly comfortable leaving her alone with.

There’s nothing new about the idea of GPS trackers, but this has built on the successes of those that have gone before and made it more suitable for pets. The Pawfit 2 click-fits into a collar mount, allowing it to be easily removed for charging using the easy-to-use custom charging dock. It’s also waterproof up to a depth of three meters, so you won’t need to worry when you are going for riverside walks and your pet fancies a bit of a splash around.

A lot of consideration has been paid to safety: you'll get alerts when the tracker is removed from (or has fallen off of) the collar mount, as well as geofencing facilities in the app which can tell you if your dog strays beyond a certain boundary. It'll also play an audio alert if someone finds your dog, with all the information they need to get your pet returned to you, and you can trigger an audio tone if your dog starts heading for the hills, something which may be enough to distract them from whatever quarry they're chasing.

Points to hardware design, too: while this is marginally more cumbersome than Tractive's tracker (particularly noticeable if you're using it to track a larger cat, something Pawfit suggests) it's light enough.

If you're in an area with cellular reception you'll get live updates through the app, which also gives you access to a host of activity monitoring metrics and all the information you need to make sense of them. It's worth noting, though, that the Pawfit 2 does require a subscription to get running. Connecting to mobile networks isn't free. Thankfully it's not too expensive, and there's a discount if you pay for a whole year at a time, compared to pay-monthly costs.

Pawfit 2: User reviews

Users of the Pawfit 2 seem, on the whole, overwhelmingly positive about it, and we can see why. The location tracking, in particular, appears to work very well, with some users applauding its ability to switch to a battery-sapping extra detail mode for ten minutes if your dog heads for the trees, and most people being very forgiving of the fact that it basically doesn't work to track your pet at all if you're in the countryside with no signal. You'll get the data later on, but it's only really suitable for finding an errant dog when the tracker can communicate with a mast.

Others have found the geofencing functionality gave them a lot of peace of mind, particularly with skittish dogs and rescues – it gives you an automatic alert should your pet stray from a particular area, which is perfect if you're leaving them in the garden unattended. The alarm function, too, is something of an unexpected highlight, startling dogs out of potentially unpleasant or undesirable activities; one user commented "It works a treat, and it's not too loud as its right next to his ear – our dog has an uncanny interest in consuming other animals' poo!"

Pawfit states 2-5 days battery life, and that really does seem to depend on the amount of use the Pawfit 2 gets on a walk. We'd guess that a lack of signal might lower its longevity further; searching for a signal can be more demanding than maintaining one.

A few users have had issues with the twist-click mount, losing the device after it was dislodged in the wilds, and a very small number have had tracking issues – as it uses GPS, this shouldn't be a huge issue, but its ability to reach satellites could be affected if you're walking in a built up area.

The upper story includes a warm and dry covered sleeping area for napping and snuggling away in, perfect for hiding away from the elements if the hutch is located outside.

Your pet pals access the lower level by ridged ramp, which not only helps them keep fit, but it’s good for helping keep their claws under control too. This story has loads of room for snuffling around in and has plenty of space for toys.

They give the Skymee Owl enough purchase to roll on hard floors, carpet, or grass, with the entire central portion of the unit counterweighted so it stays facing forward as the Owl travels. You can pilot it yourself, directing it to go forward, back, or turn using your phone, all while viewing what the Owl sees while you do it.

As well as being remote-controlled, you can also set it to roam automatically. It can detect and avoid objects in its path (but it’s not so great at dealing with steps, so will be better suited to rooms on one level). You can also set a path for it to follow if you don’t want it leading your pet into areas you don’t want it to. This makes it a fun interactive pet companion while you are out of your house, provided you’ve remembered to charge it before you leave, of course.

If your furry friends really bond with it, the Owl can switch to a mode where it generates its own Wi-fi network, which means you can pack it in a bag for some outdoor play and let it dish out the best dog treats or cat treats along the way!

The camera looks to be a fairly standard 1080p sensor, so not too exciting in terms of its resolution, but it offers a fairly unique viewpoint likely lower than your pet's eye line. You can obviously use it to see where you're driving the Owl, but it's also possible to record footage through it, or just peep at what your pets are up to when you're not at home - if they're not happy, the Owl includes both a microphone and speaker, so you can calm them down with your voice. 

Many of these features can be found in other pet cameras, and indeed in cheaper cameras that don't have a specific pet focus but we don't know of anything with quite the same companionship and play features of the Skymee Owl. If separation anxiety is a big issue, we'd recommend pairing the Skymee Owl alongside something like the RelaxoPet Pro, which uses advanced vibration technology to calm stressed pets.

Everything's fine in theory, but how does the Owl hold up in practice? 

In many ways it's great. Most people seem perfectly happy with the standard of the Skymee Owl's camera, for example, and the test shots we've seen back that up: it's a high quality eye with good range and adept night vision capabilities. You won't have any trouble seeing what your little one is up to.

The wheels don't quite hold up to the promise, though. They struggle, it seems, to gain traction over certain carpets, so this is probably better suited to hard floors than it is to a '70s shag-pile lounge, and we'd likely recommend against the outdoor functionality unless you're playing on an immaculately tended bowling green.

Some users have noted that the Owl is a little larger than it seems in pictures, so it might be a little intimidating if you're buying it for a cat rather than a larger dog, treat dispensing or not. Depends on your cat, really; others have found theirs interacted with it fine, and some found their cat was utterly indifferent to it, which should honestly be the expected outcome when making any expensive purchase for a cat.

Even the most positive user reviews - and there are a lot - mention that the Owl is prone to occasional disconnections, and that Skymee's app is functional but not particularly special. But it's an expensive thing that tries to do three things at once. If you're looking for a pet toy, there are numerous other options. A pet camera needs to be 100% reliable to stop you worrying for no reason; if this is, as some have suggested, a little flaky in that department, it might be best reserved for play. 

We'd put this firmly in the 'disposable income' bracket. You don't need the Skymee Owl, but you and your pet will probably enjoy it.

There will always be a certain level of natural skepticism that comes with a product such as this, but also a definite trend towards confirmation bias. So it's no surprise that the RelaxoPet's reviews jump to either end of the spectrum, with some claiming it solved their pet's anxiety problems, and others claiming it didn't work at all.

The most positive responses (and there are more of these than negative) came from those that took the time to train their dogs to the sound, with many saying that their canine companions can now sleep through anything. Many plaudits also seem to come from those who didn't actually think it would work but have been converted to the efficacy of the RelaxoPet Pro's sonic tranquilizing. 

Some even talk about the effectiveness of the human-audible section of the RelaxoPet Pro's output on themselves, with one reviewer even claiming the looping, relaxing music helped with her own insomnia.

We wouldn't pick the RelaxoPet Pro as the first port of call for a dog with anxiety issues. There are other, more established, solutions that rely on a little more science, including a thundervest or diffusers such as Adaptil, but they don't necessarily have the same flexibility or spiritual energy. 

You may well prefer the concept and execution of the RelaxoPet Pro and, given that there's more than just a dog version, it's important to remember that there's no way to put a thundervest on a bird. 

Its portability is another big plus because, once your dog is accustomed to it, you can take it anywhere. It's not the biggest investment, either, particularly when you consider the potentially expensive cost of diffusers.

As we’ve mentioned, the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery is chunkier and less attractive than a model like the Arlo Pro 3 Camera, but we love the security and convenience it offers and that extends to how easy it is to install. It also has a quick release battery pack that gives six months of charge and you can purchase a second battery pack for backup power or a solar panel for a continuous charge.

While you can use the Ring without a subscription, we recommend parting with the $3/month to get full use of your new device. You’ll be able to record, save and share photos and videos and see exactly what triggered an alert with a photo preview in the notification to save you opening up the app.

The PEEKAB Cat Scratching Post with Cat Tracks Toy looks so much fun, it's hard not to wish there was a large-size human equivalent. In many ways, it's a kitty theme park for the home, earning itself an honorable place in our guide to the best cat scratching posts and garnering plenty of fans online. 

For starters, cats can relieve their urge to scratch and keep those claws in shape without troubling your furniture. They can then bat at a ball attached to the 25-inch high post or engage with the colorful trackball toy that is placed around the base.

It's certainly a good looking toy. With its overall beige coloring, it won't look out of place in the corner of many living rooms and it's not too large as to be dominating either. It uses natural materials in the main (the plastic excepted) and, with just four fixings, you'll have it assembled in super-quick time.

This scratching post is not as large as some of the others we've seen. It has a 16-inch by 12-inch base to provide support for the 25-inch post but, ideally, a cat scratcher should be about 31 inches so it does fall a little short. The pedestal is also significantly smaller than the base and it won't be big enough for larger feline friends such as a Maine Coon. All that said, the manufacturer reckons the PEEKAB Cat Scratching Post is suitable for cats up to 12 pounds which covers most domestic breeds and many purchasers say their cats are making fantastic use of it.

It's easy to see why. The scratching post is made of sturdy cardboard covered in natural sisal – the best material to use because it's strong, rough and doesn't catch a cat's claws in the way that posts covered in carpet can do. The ball on top of the post is also sure to be a draw for your moggy, particularly because it has a feather attached, tapping into their predatory instinct to hunt feathery creatures. The fact it's on a removable rotating arm adds to the fun since it can encourage them to chase.

Of course, upping the excitement stakes is the three-tier trackball toy at the base, with the rolling nature of the balls sure to appeal to a cat's curiosity and amuse them for hours. Some users have reported the balls going missing as cats manage to loosen them from the tracks. If this happens and you can't find them, then ping-pong balls are said to work just as well, but it's something to bear in mind.

So how well did our cat Nova take to the product? When we placed the toy on the carpet, he barely batted an eyelid – until we turned it on. Suddenly, his ears pricked up, his eyes widened and he quickly got on his feet and began to slowly stalk towards the plastic cheese, assessing what on earth the movement could be.

Eventually, he got very close but veered mainly to one side where the mouse was popping out a hole closer to the ground. He watched with great interest yet seemed to slightly jump back at times when the mouse came further out (it has a couple of lengths which adds some variety). Sadly, he didn't paw at the toy or make any attempt to grab it.

Not to be deterred, we turned the device off (left alone it will continue for between 10 and 15 minutes before powering down itself – a good battery saver as well as a way to prevent your cat from getting used to the movement). We then waited an hour and powered it back on. This time, Nova was presented with the cheese at an angle so that the mouse higher up on the other side was more visible. Again, our reviewer got close but simply watched with interest.

Maybe Nova was being put off by us taking photographs of his endeavor so we tried the Play-While-You-Are-Away Mode. This is easy to set up – it's a matter of holding the power button until it beeps three times. Oddly, the toy begins immediately (we're not away yet!), but after 10 to 15 minutes it turns off, coming back on two hours later. When that play session ends, it resumes once more in two hours.

How do we know? Well, aside from saying so in the instructions, we set up a Blink home security camera to spy on our furry friend and, left to his own devices, Nova eventually engaged and seemed to have great fun trying to get at the mouse. We couldn't help but feel that the toy could be more varied, though: the mice only appear through two holes and a few more could perhaps make it a tad less predictable, although we're seeing this through a human mind.

It's clear that some thought has gone into the Dancing Dot Laser Cat Toy. For starters, as you take it out of the box and remove the protective plastic bag, you'll be immediately struck by its feline-styling – a fun, rounded design topped by a pair of cat ears and finished with a four-legged stand that makes popping it on a shelf or table top very easy indeed.

Such thought also extends to the most important part of the device: the laser pointer. This is located towards the bottom of the toy and it's angled at the ground. Not only does this ensure the light will flit around the floor, it also makes the laser far less likely to suddenly catch your eye. This, as we will discuss in a mo, is important because lasers don't come without caution.

Before you can get to see the toy in action, however, you need to insert some batteries. The device takes three AAA cells which are not included but, to insert them, you have to loosen a tiny screw to remove the battery door then tighten it again when refitting. It's presumably because AAA cells are relatively slim so they're more easily swallowed by children but it was a tad frustrating nonetheless.

Our next hindrance (and this one's on us!) was finding the power button. We looked around the device, having not consulted the manual, and realized that it is located to the left-hand side – the “issue” being that it's the same colour as the casing and fits flush. Once we found it, though, we liked the thinking. It's good that the button blends in well and the location ensures its easily accessible.

But how does it work? Well, there are two main functional features – “One-Time-Play” and “Play-All-Day”. The first is activated by pressing and releasing the power button and it starts a session lasting 15 minutes. The second requires you to press and hold the button until it beeps and this ensures that the toy will turn on for 15 minutes every couple of hours. But, in reality, it's not quite as straightforward as that.

Dancing Dot Laser Cat Toy: How does it fare?

We tried the toy in both of the recommended positions: sitting on a table top and hanging from a door handle using the strap that pokes out of the top of the device. In both instances, it resulted in the exact same outcome which was to shine a nice, bright laser light on to the ground and this certainly caught the attention of our reviewing cat.

Nova, it seems, likes nothing better than to chase a laser around the floor and he followed it with great enthusiasm. The movement felt random as the laser darted here, there and everywhere, ensuring head and paws remained active throughout the One-Time-Play Session. Our cat's focus was entirely on the ground although he did look at once at the source of the light, possibly because we were standing next to it.

This isn't really desirable. Although the toy uses a Class 1 laser which is the least hazardous type, the manual accompanying this product still comes with a warning. It clearly states that there is a risk of exposure to laser radiation and that you should never look into the laser beam or the laser beam reflection, averting your eyes immediately if you catch a glimpse of it.

It goes without saying that you wouldn't want your cat to eyeball the laser either so the manual also says that you should “supervise pet while playing with this product”. This is great advice and yet the product has a Play-All-Day feature which activates a 15-minute session every two hours.

We assumed this feature is designed for use when you're away from home, allowing your cat to be stimulated in your absence. Yet the warning made us think twice about using this mode in such a way and, as such, we'd be more inclined to stick to the One-Time-Play-Session mode. Not that it puts us off from using the product, though.

After all, most of the fun of a laser toy is that you can actually watch a skitty kitty darting around the place, and not having to do the controlling yourself means you can relax as your cat chases and pounces. Restricting sessions to 15 minutes worked well too. It ensured the battery didn't run down as fast and it prevented Nova from getting bored.

That said, we found the noise of the motor inside the toy was a little annoying and it would have been lovely if we could control the device from a phone, tablet or computer – a feature that, granted, would increase the price of the product somewhat. As it is, though, the toy kept our cat occupied for pretty much the full 15 minutes of each session. His inability to tire of the toy was admirable!
