Are there really cat breeds for every zodiac sign? Well, while there's no real science behind these things, there's certainly a case to be made that certain personalities and temperaments blend together more effortlessly than others.

If you're in the throes of figuring out how to prepare for a cat and you want to ensure you pick a feline friend who will fit with your lifestyle and has a similar nature, consulting with the stars can be a good place to start.

A bold and fiery sign like Aries, for example, often matches beautifully with a similarly outgoing cat, like a Bengal. On the other hand, a sensitive Cancerian may find they're better paired with a sweet-natured kitty, like a Ragamuffin.

The good news is that regardless of whether you're an active outdoorsy type or a lover of being curled up at home with a good book, there's a cat breed to suit the personality and needs of every zodiac sign. Read on and find out which feline is set to be your new forever friend.

People with Aries as their zodiac sign tend to be bold, confident and always up for trying new things — which is why the Bengal is such a perfect match. A muscular cat with a striking coat and a wild appearance, the Bengal is an active and curious breed with dog-like tendencies. Fascinated by everything, this isn't the breed to get if you're after a quiet and calm life, but if you're an experienced owner looking for an affectionate, energetic and animated little buddy, the Bengal is an excellent choice. Just make sure you have plenty of the best interactive cat toys lying around the house that they can amuse themselves with when you're too busy to play!

Fiery Aries pairs beautifully with energetic, fun-loving and playful breeds who share their go-getter nature, and you'll certainly find all of these traits in the Abyssinian. This kitty is willful and intelligent, and their inquisitive personality means they'll always be happy to supervise and help out with whatever task you're working on. And if you have a love of the outdoors and have ever wondered whether hiking with cats is a possibility, you'll be delighted to learn it certainly is if you have an Abyssinian in your family!

Egyptian Mau

Vocal, active and expressive, the Egyptian Mau is an elegant looking kitty with striking spotted markings and large round eyes. Extremely dog-like in their characteristics, this breed is always up for a game of fetch and most love playing with water. They are loyal, friendly and fun-loving cats who adore having a nice warm lap to curl up on at the end of the day, and they also have very musical voices, so if you're looking for a feline friend you can have a conversation with, the Egyptian Mau certainly ticks that box!

Taurus

Chartreux

If you were born under the zodiac sign of Taurus, you're likely very down to earth and chilled, which is why the Chartreux is a breed worth considering. One cool cat, they're very independent and undemanding, with thoughtful and unassuming natures. They get on well with everyone that they live with, although they tend to bond the most deeply with just one lucky human. A quiet observer who enjoys watching the action from the sidelines, the Chartreux makes for a lovely, calm kitty to have in the home.

Himalayan

A sociable and companionable cat with a long and silky coat, the Himalayan is a cross between the Persian and the Siamese and these gentle giants make truly wonderful fur friends. Sweet, playful and adoring of their humans, they'll happily lap up your attention and return it in kind. One of the most affectionate cat breeds, the Himalayan loves serene and quiet environments where they can enjoy a good cuddle.

Persian

Often wearing a perpetually grumpy looking expression, don't let the Persian's outward look fool you — this is one seriously a loving, charming, and easy going little bundle of fluff. Appreciating a peaceful home where they can feel relaxed and secure, the Persian is a quiet kitty with a sweet and gentle nature. Although they're friendly, they don't like roughhousing or being carted around the house by young children, so if you are thinking of welcoming a Persian into your family home, ensure that everyone understands that this is a cat to be stroked and admired and not a cat for strenuous play sessions. We also recommend reading up on a vet's guide to brushing long-haired cats as the Persian's coat is not for the faint of heart!

Gemini

Siamese

Playful, chatty and intellectually curious, Geminis are known for being smart, quick-thinking and witty, so it makes sense that the inquisitive and sociable Siamese would make for a great partner in crime. Energetic and extroverted, this breed bonds strongly with their chosen human and is incredibly vocal. Very dependent in nature, they will thrive in a home with someone who can be around all day and who can meet their high need for physical and mental stimulation and enrichment. Not getting enough attention or enrichment can result in boredom and mischief-making — one of many reasons to use a cat puzzle feeder toy or other interactive playthings with this breed.

Turkish Van

A dog-like cat with plenty of intelligence, the Turkish Van shares the Gemini's love of being active and on the go, relishing nothing more than to climb and leap from one relaxing spot in the home to another. The Turkish Van is best for someone who adores playful cats and doesn't mind their feline friend joining them in the shower or bath (this is a breed that loves water). Because they're so smart, the answer to the question of is clicker training for cats recommended is a big yes with this breed — the Turkish Van loves to learn and they can be trained to do tricks fairly easily.

Energetic and fun-loving, this breed may be short on legs but they're certainly big on personality! Active, friendly, sociable and intelligent, the Munchkin will keep their playful kittenish attitude well into adulthood and when they're not busy playing, they'll happily settle down for a good old snuggle session with their humans — offering cat owners the best of all worlds.

With a big body, big eyes and an equally big heart, this cuddly cat loves being held and stroked, and they're known for being super easy going. Teddy bears in both looks and nature, they adore being in the presence of their humans — whether that's on their lap, curled up beside them, or simply in the same room.

Exotic Shorthair

A medium-sized and stockily built feline, the Exotic Shorthair have flattened faces, short legs and sweet personalities. Their short muzzle makes them look like they're constantly grumpy, but rest assured, this breed is incredibly friendly and loving to those they know well (although they can be aloof with strangers). Friendly and social, the Toyger is a highly intelligent feline who loves being challenged. Can you train a cat? You certainly can if they're a Toyger! They love stimulation and enrichment, and learning new tricks will be right up their street. Always up for an adventure with their humans, this breed sticks close to their people and prefers to be played with rather than engage in independent fun.

Tonkinese

The Tonkinese is a mix of the Burmese and the Siamese, which explains where it gets its striking good looks from! Much like the joyful Leo, they are known for their enormous capacity for love and have a sweet and affectionate nature which means they're always up for a cuddle with their people. Curious and intelligent, the Tonkinese are outgoing cats with an inventive and take-charge personality that makes them one of a kind. As you'd probably expect given their ancestry, this is a very chatty breed who will certainly expect you to listen and respond to what they have to say, so make sure you're up for plenty of conversation if you plan on welcoming this breed into your family.

They have very soft coats that are blue and typically silver-tipped, giving them a shimmery and regal-like appearance. With a subdued and easygoing personality, they make great companions for older people or anyone looking for a mellow, gentle and calm fur friend. Because of their high need for mental and physical stimulation, we recommend lots of puzzles and interactive toys to satisfy their desire to keep busy.
