It's hard to imagine anything that could brighten your day more than a roundup of the cutest dog breeds in the world. After all, who doesn't like passing time looking at a bunch of sweet furry faces?

While cuteness is subjective, some dog breeds are universally considered cute. Whether it's down to their fluffy coats, expressive eyes, short legs, or low-slung bodies, certain breeds just ooze the 'aww' factor.

If you're thinking about adopting a dog, you can take looks into consideration but it's more important to consider their overall temperament and exercise needs to ensure you and your new canine companion are a good fit.

So, without further ado, here are the cutest dog breeds in the world (in our humble opinion, of course)....

Cutest dog breeds

1. Golden retriever

Often regarded as one of the friendliest dog breeds around, the wonderful golden retriever just has so many attractive qualities. Alongside his luscious golden locks and wide smile, this breed is known for being patient, loving, loyal, and highly social with both other dogs and their human family.

You’ll be hard-pressed to meet a more friendly dog – the golden retriever is one cute canine and a wonderful companion to boot. If you're looking for a dog that has beauty, brains, and a beautiful personality, this breed is well worth considering.

2. Rottweiler

The Rottweiler might not be the first breed of dog you think of as cute due to their often unfair reputation as being aggressive, dangerous, aloof, and unpredictable. However, when given appropriate training and socialized early on, you'll likely find these majestic dogs can be obedient, calm, and loyal.

Some are even giant softies, and others have hilariously comical natures. Rotties do best with active families as they have lots of energy to burn. However, after a long walk or play session, you'll find these dogs are typically very quiet and enjoy following their humans around the house.

3. Jack Russell Terrier

Full of fun, the Jack Russell Terrier is a high-energy dog breed that's perfect for active pet parents who have plenty of time on their hands to give this breed the exercise they crave. These terriers need at least an hour of exercise each day, but their lively and clownish spirit will reward you with more than your fair share of joy in life.

The Jack Russell Terrier is naturally tolerant and patient where children are concerned and because they have such a huge zest for life, they make wonderful playmates for youngsters. Spunky, fearless, and energetic, the curious and vocal Jack Russell Terrier does best in households where someone is around all day to keep them company.

While they were originally built for hard work, these days, 60–90 minutes of moderate exercise will be enough to keep them happy. The rest of the time, these sweet and calm dogs are happiest lying on the couch next to their favorite people.

5. Dalmation

With his trademark spotty coat and sensitive intelligence, it's no surprise that the dalmatian frequently comes out on top as one of the cutest dog breeds in the world. Of course, a lot of that public image is helped by having a starring role in the Disney film 101 Dalmatians.

While they're accurately portrayed as being a little mischievous, sensitive, and full of fun and energy, you might be surprised by just how much attention and exercise these dogs require. Always bursting with energy, a Dalmatian is best suited to those who lead an active lifestyle.

6. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Gentle in nature and miniature in size, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has won over royalty with their sweet personality and adorable good looks. They were named after King Charles II, and Queen Victoria was never without her Cavie, Dash, by her side.

While they'll happily potter after you to catch your attention, they're also full of affection, so you're just as likely to have them snuggle up on your lap as you are to enjoy long walks together. Beautiful in looks and in nature, the Cavalier King Charles has a kind and compassionate heart, making them one of the best dogs for emotional support.

For anyone considering adding one to their life, the French Bulldog is typically highly adaptable, but their attractive facial structure comes at a cost. These wonderful pets do suffer from ill-health due to their flat faces (they’re what’s known as a brachycephalic breed), which can cause them breathing difficulties.

Being a Japanese dog breed also gives them somewhat of an exotic appeal around the world. In saying that, to have one in your life requires careful consideration.
